Blue British Shorthair Kittens

Blue is where the British Shorthair began, at least in the public imagination. For most of the twentieth century “British Blue” was practically the breed's name, and when people picture the cat, the round-faced, copper-eyed, slate-grey plush toy of a cat, they are picturing a blue. Genetically it is a dilution of black: two copies of the dilute gene soften black pigment into that even, silvery grey-blue that seems to change depth with the light.

What photographs never quite capture is the coat itself. A well-bred blue carries the densest coat in the breed, so packed that it stands away from the body and takes the print of your hand for a moment when you stroke it. Breeders call it crisp; families usually just say they have never touched anything like it. Against that grey, the eyes ripen from baby blue-grey to a deep copper-orange over the first year, and the contrast is the whole portrait.

Temperament does not follow colour, whatever folklore says. Our blues are raised exactly as every Monarch & Monroe kitten is: underfoot in the house, handled daily, steady around children and other animals. What blue does bring is forgiveness in daily life. The even colour hides shed hair and small sins, and the coat needs nothing beyond a weekly comb and good food.

Blues appear in most of our litters, so the wait for one is usually the shortest of any colour we breed. Every available blue kitten is listed above with its price shown openly, and each is reserved the same way: a conversation, a live video call with the kitten and its mother, then a deposit.
